PPC Advertising

What is PPC?

Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising is one type of advertising that comes under the Search Engine Marketing (SEM) umbrella. The most popular providers of PPC advertising are Google, Yahoo, Bing and also Facebook.

How does it work?

As the name suggests, you pay for every click you receive in the hope of making conversions, whether it be leads or sales. So if you were to set up a Google AdWords account you would need to choose keywords, ad copy and a few other targeting options just to name a tiny handful. Once these are set up you then enter into a bidding system against other companies (your competitors) when a  search is performed for your selected keywords. If the searcher decides to click on your ad you will be charged a fee and hopefully that searcher will convert into a sale or lead.

Sounds Simple!

Yes, it does sound simple although there are so many factors which can cause an account to fail or achieve less than desirable results. The wrong ad copy, keywords, location targeting, landing page, incorrect time of day, lack of negative keywords and many other factors can mean a massive loss of time and budget.

So it’s not simple then…?

No, unfortunately not. However, marketing rarely is simple. The way we market to people in the 21st century, plus the technology that enables us to market to consumers is constantly changing, which basically makes keeping on top of any marketing campaign a full time job and this is where we come in.
